With German troops advancing fast on Paris, the last place has left the airport and thousands of refugees are left stranded. Jacoboswky (Danny Kaye), a mild-mannered Jewish Pole, finds himself helping an arrogant Polish Colonel, Prokoszny (Kurt Jurgens) to escape. It's a bizarre combination... and sparks fly as the two men flee the city in an ancient Rolls-Royce, the only car left in Paris. The highly incompatible duo set out across France, hotly pursued by the Nazis, with the Colonel's valet, his mistress, and Artiside the canary caught up in the hilarious cross-fire!
