"Of the numerous reports of alleged apparitions of Our Lady in the last century - some fully approved by the Church, such as Fatima and Akita - there are many that have not yet received the full approbation of the Church, including the apparitions and events at Garabandal in the 1960s.

The challenge came from the fact that it centred around a prophecy of Our Lady to the four girls of an event that has not yet occurred, “The Great Miracle.”  This painting merely represents one artistic impression or speculative glimpse of the way in which this miraculous occurrence may appear."
